Weir Secures Major Contract to Power Brightstar Resources’ Gold Project in Western Australia

Global engineering and technology leader Weir has been awarded a significant contract to supply critical minerals processing equipment for Brightstar Resources’ Laverton Processing Plant, a key component of the Goldfields gold project in Western Australia. This strategic win underscores Weir’s growing footprint in the region and its ability to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end solutions for modern mining operations.

A Holistic Suite of Processing Equipment

The contract, secured in the first quarter of 2026, goes far beyond a simple equipment supply. Weir will provide a fully integrated suite of technologies designed to optimize multiple stages of the minerals processing circuit.

The order includes Weir’s industry-renowned Warman® slurry pumps and Cavex® hydrocyclones, which are essential for efficient slurry transport and classification. Additionally, the contract features Weir’s newly upgraded Enduron® ET series jaw crusher and Enduron® EC series cone crusher, ensuring that the facility benefits from the latest advancements in comminution technology for maximum throughput and energy efficiency.

Strategic Collaboration for a 1.5 Mt/y Facility

Weir’s involvement extends deep into the project’s engineering phase. The company collaborated closely with GR Engineering Services Limited on the design of the crushing circuit, ensuring seamless integration of the equipment from day one.

Beyond manufacturing and supply, Weir will also provide vital on-site installation and commissioning support for the 1.5 million tonnes per annum (Mt/y) gold processing facility. This comprehensive support structure is designed to de-risk the project timeline, helping Brightstar Resources stay firmly on track to achieve its target of first gold production by mid-2027.

Engineering the Entire Mining Value Chain

This contract highlights a major shift in how modern mining companies approach plant design. Rather than sourcing equipment in isolated silos, operators are increasingly seeking unified solutions that optimize the entire flow sheet.

Jyotirmoy Roy, Weir’s General Manager for APAC Equipment Solutions, highlighted the strategic value of this integrated approach:

“The release of the upgraded Enduron jaw and cone crusher was the culmination of many years’ work. Today, miners are taking a more holistic view of their operations; rather than looking at pieces of equipment in isolation. As they increasingly consider the impact of upstream operations on downstream activities, and vice versa, Weir has a portfolio of equipment spanning the mining value chain, which allows us to enable this approach.”

Looking Ahead

As Western Australia continues to be a global epicenter for gold and critical minerals exploration, projects like the Brightstar Goldfields initiative require robust, reliable, and highly efficient processing technologies. By delivering a complete, integrated solution—from crushing to pumping and classification—Weir is not only helping Brightstar Resources accelerate its path to production but also setting a new standard for holistic, lifecycle-supported mineral processing in the region.
